For many CrossFit athletes, training has always been tied to performance—chasing the leaderboard, PRs, and the next big qualifier. But what happens when you step away from competition?
In this episode, we’re talking about that transition—when you go from structured, competitive training to simply working out “for fitness.” It’s not always an easy switch. And if you’ve felt a little lost or inconsistent in this phase, you’re not alone. This conversation offers perspective, practical strategies, and a reminder that this season of training can still be incredibly rewarding.
Whether you’ve recently stepped away from competing or coach athletes who have, this is a great episode to get grounded in what’s best for where you are now.
1️⃣ You need a new “why”
Your competitive goals may be behind you, but that doesn’t mean your best training days are. Defining personal goals (like staying active for your kids, improving consistency, or simply enjoying movement again) gives your training purpose and direction.
2️⃣ Metrics still matter
You don’t have to track everything. But having a few go-to markers (like weekly consistency, energy levels, or strength progressions) can keep you motivated and give your training a sense of progress.
3️⃣ Intensity is still your friend.
Even if you’re not peaking for a comp, intensity has a place in long-term fitness. We talk about how to dose it in ways that feel good, support your goals, and still give you that sense of accomplishment.
